The bovine ChromeFree leather is smooth and light. Coming from farms located in the south of Brazil (Rio Grande do Sul), it undergoes an innovative tanning process where no chrome, heavy metals or dangerous acids are involved. By simplifying the tanning process, the use of chemicals and energy is limited, the use of water is reduced by about 40% and the use of salt by 80%. After tanning, the water is recyclable.

ABOUT THE BRAND
Launched in 2004, VEJA is the product of a vision to create sneakers that are kinder to the environment and the people involved in the manufacturing process. The Brazilian word for ‘look’ VEJA empowers the wearer to look beyond the sneakers and see exactly how they’re made. Upcycling of materials, including recycled polyester, plastic bottles and cotton retrieved from industry deadstock, is used where possible, along with organic cotton, Amazonian wild rubber and a leather alternative that is vegan and bio-sourced to help eliminate the petroleum-based processes that often come with mainstream leather alternatives.
